It’s no secret that Emma Donovan can put on a show and not “Up against the best of them” because over the years she has proven she is one of the best.

Having a huge career with The Putbacks, Black Arm Band, Stiff Gins and other solo works to name a few, Emma has a new solo album “Til My Song Is Done” set to be out into the world April 19th 2024.

Emma is known for her powerful voice with a soul funk/gospel sound, when announcing this album there was something different, taken from her bio - In many ways Til My Song is Done is a return home for Emma Donovan. A getting back to the sounds of country, with the feeling of being on Country.

Country? Ok I need to see this! So, I contacted Emma, and her team then made my way down to Wyndham Cultural Centre too see what this is all about. Being a musician myself I have played many shows with Emma and have seen her solo and with The Putbacks, the wall of sound and shows are amazing, so how will this translate live?

Emma walked out on stage with two bandmates an Acoustic Guitar, Slide Guitar and a mic… Now when you have a voice like Emma it creates its own wall of sound that is beautiful beyond measure.

This stripped back version of Emma still had the power it needed to fill an auditorium and create such an amazing atmosphere but also delicate enough to keep you listening and be sucked into the experience.

Now we have all heard the singer between songs “This next one is’, How you all doing?”, “Hello Detroit rock city!” ect ect, From start to end Emma took you on a journey of the new album and not just with the music, Between every song there was a story that linked every piece of music to the next, This didn’t feel rehearsed or scripted it was pure storytelling as it should be.

With some banter with the audience, the stories, the music, the journey, the giggles and some heavy emotions this was such a beautiful show that should not be missed! After hearing these new songs live first, I’m really excited to hear the new album.
